Bailiff Bridge Scout Group has arranged for a new Union flag to be flying above the village’s Memorial Park ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Many of the over 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who attend the Group’s Monday section nights at the nearby Community Centre, and others across the community, had noticed the current flag was looking faded and in need of repair.
Working with community leader Malcolm Silkstone and Calderdale Council, they offered to organise for a replacement to be secured.
It was handed over to Malcolm on Monday (3 November) and it is hoped it will now be in place ahead of the always well attended commemorations which, this year, take place on Sunday 9th November.
The Remembrance Sunday service starts at 10.30am and the Scout Group will be among those parading ahead of the wreath laying and reflection.
The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, aged between 5 and 14, have also produced a Display of Remembrance which can be seen in the windows of the Community Centre.
Cut outs of the children’s hands make up a Giant Poppy, while the Cubs have written messages of tribute to those who served and lost their lives serving our country.

“There is no more poignant or important occasion than Remembrance Sunday, and the flag, alongside our beautiful Display of Remembrance, is an important demonstration of our tribute to those who gave their tomorrows for our today.”

“Many people have spoken to me about the state of the Union flag in the Memorial Gardens so when the Scouts Group offered to arrange for a replacement to be bought, I was delighted to accept.
“Thank you to all the young people, their parents and the groups’ leaders for once again being such kind, passionate and important parts of our community. I can’t wait to see the new Union flag proudly flying over Bailiff Bridge.”
