We’re looking for a new Group Treasurer

Bailiff Bridge Scouts Group relies on people like you playing their part to give young people opportunities to dream big, give it a go, and build skills for life.

After serving our Group for many years, our current Group Treasurer is stepping down and we’re looking for someone to take over this important role providing sound financial administration, support and information to the Trustee Board and Scout Group.

You don’t need to be a parent or family member of anyone within our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to be our Treasurer – anyone from our community can carry out the role.

But it is an essential role – put simply, we can’t exist as a Scout Group without someone as Treasurer. To ensure our Monday section nights for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – plus everything else we do as a Group – can continue, we need to fill the vacancy.

What’s involved?

The responsibilities of the Treasurer:
  • Look after finances, such as making sure the Group is collecting all membership fees and making all payments.
  • Share details about income and spend with other Trustees.
  • Make sure Gift Aid is being claimed.
  • Make sure proper accounts are kept and draw up policies on finance and investment.
  • Ensuring that the Group is financially able to function, has appropriate reserves and accounting procedures and controls in place.
  • Prepare the Annual Statement of Accounts for independent examination and approval by the Trustee Board and presenting these at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Administering the process of Independent Examination of the Annual Statement of Accounts in accordance with Policy, Organisation and Rules.
General Trustee Board Responsibilities:
  • To be a full and active participant in Trustee Board meetings and activities.
  • To uphold the responsibilities of a Trustee Board as outlined in The Scout Association’s Policy Organisation and Rules.
  • Willingness and eligibility to act as a Charity Trustee for the Group.
  • Contribute to the strategic aims and future development of the Group.
  • An understanding of their own role and the role of others on the Trustee Board.
  • A commitment to understanding and forming opinions on the key discussion points and responsibilities of the Trustee Board.
  • Willingness to complete various tasks which support the work of the Trustee Board and aims of the Group.

  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to think creatively and solve problems
  • Able to analyse basic financial information
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to summarise financial information for different audiences
  • Willing to speak one’s mind and listen to the views of others.
  • Able to maintain independent and objective judgement
